ABSTRACT
The paper points out the discovery of the ethnographic archive of the villages which once existed on the spot which is nowadays occupied by the Lake of Bicaz.
As a result of long years of field research which involved famous names of the Romanian ethnography, only two volumes have been edited about the project, and they do not take into account important fields of traditional civilization.
The described documentary corpus includes interesting materials about the rural civilization lost under waters, as well as a rich correspondence as for the preparation of the research and the political and ideological tension directed on the specialists in charge of the preparation of the texts meant for publication.
