ABSTRACT

Within the cycle of poems entitled La lilieci (By the Bats), Marin Sorescu evokes the universe of his natal village in an interesting poetic way which caused contradictory reactions between the critics. The novelty consists in the use of elements of folks culture (occupation, costume, mentality, myths, beliefs, superstitions, rites, traditions, folk literature, onomastics, local speech), investigated deliberately, in the febrile search of his own identity. Apparently easy, this original and provoking poetry, of post-modern style, enciphers sometimes in a ludic way, deep philosophic meanings, perceived by the reader only according to his initiation and culture.

The confrontation within the present study of the understanding of life and death, of the metaphysical world, especially of funeral rites, obsessive in La lilieci, with the material identified in Oltenia by the authors of the Atlasul Etnografic Român pointed out the thorough documentation of the poet, with the help of his talents mother, in most cases, but also thanks to the poetic meaning of ethnographic details.
