Abstract

This paper presents aspects concerning the patrimonialization of ceramics and its recontextualization in the museums or private collections once they lose their utilitarian or decorative function inside the household. The curator can offer expertise if his or her experience and knowledge in a particular field are extraordinary, and in most cases, alongside the collector, he or she enriches the heritage thus contributing to the process of patrimonialization. The large number of ceramic objects that today are part of the museum’s collections are owed to the collectors that gathered these objects for years and who later donated or sold these objects to the museums to complete their collections and for their scientific valorization. I have seen that for the museums abroad, the process of creating an exhibition includes, in the scenography and theme approached, new ways of selecting, systematization, and transmitting the tangible and intangible cultural heritage. This new approach gradually replaces the descriptive role of the curator with a participatory one. The Saxon ceramics from the area of Sibiu is considered to be a masterpiece of the cultural European heritage thanks to their rarity, the short period when it was created, its decorum, and thanks to the techniques used.
