The Cucuteni A-B settlement from Dâmbul Morii. Ritual practices, ritual complexes and cult objects

(Abstract)

The Cucuteni – Dâmbul Morii settlement had an important contribution in establishing the periodization of the Cucuteni A-B phase, considered until that moment a unique and short-lived phase. Mentioned for the first time by H. Schmidt, who also carried out a small survey in the site, it benefited from extensive excavation campaigns between 1961 and 1966, 1977 and 1978 and 1989. A number of 15 dwellings were partially or fully investigated. Through the present study, we want to present some discoveries related to the character of the spiritual life of the community from Dâmbul Morii. From the 15 researched dwellings, activities of the spiritual life were attested only in four dwellings, 1, 2, 5 and 10, as well as on the route of a control trench excavated in the 1978 campaign. Thus we can state that at Dâmbul Morii there were both foundation rituals, at the level of the dwelling (dw. 1 and 2) as well as at the level of some burning installations. moreover, based on the inventory indwelling no 1, as well as taking into account the large size of this house, we could find ourselves in front of a domestic sanctuary. We hope in the future, following the analysis of the anthropomorphic and zoomorphic plastic, to complete the picture of the spiritual life in the Dâmbul Morii settlement.
