Abstract
The present study is actually intended to be a critic aimed at one of the last historiographical publications regarding the origins of the medieval town in the Romanian region, the work of Traian Valentin Poncea, The Genesis of the medieval town, published in Bucharest in 1 999. Although an approach of this kind is highly necessary, the lack of coherence in the work, its confusions its errors, the act compiling inforrnation from other works, the ignorance manifested towards the present-day bibliography turn this study into mere historiographical limber. We are in great need of research in this field, but this research must not be conducted by means of taking leaves out of another’s anterior works but by submitting to ali the scientific rigors that such an initiative requires.
