Abstract

SOME CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING THE TREASON ACCUSATION IN MEDIEVAL MOLDAVIA

In this paper, we tried to clarify some aspects pertaining to the boyars’ betrayal. According to testimonies of those times, the Moldavian prince would find out from another boyar, by words or by writing, what was being caballed against him. Guilty of high treason were found important servants and also relatives, exceptions being women and high clergy. They were accused of treason mostly against the prince and the country, when they brought foreign army, and sometimes against the suzerain power. Because of their actions they could die, lose their fortune and destroy the family honor, only some of them obtaining forgiveness.
