ABSTRACT
The fifteenth and eighteenth centuries are the time period when court music outstandingly developed and became one of the defining elements of this period. Starting with the Byzantine Empire, continuing with Western Europe, the Ottoman Empire or Russia, court music has experienced various forms of evolution, which have contributed to glorifying the aulian ceremonial and to highlighting the political power. Even though at a much smaller political scale, Moldavia and Wallachia also acknowledged and developed the court music, being guided by the same principles as in the case of the Great Powers. The geographical position of these countries – at the junction of East and West – played an important role in the musical evolution, as it facilitated the penetration of foreign musical influences from one side to another, which together with their own elements, led to the gradual development of the national musical specificity.
